Congestive heart failure, or CHF, is one of the most
commonly found chronic health conditions in the United States.
Almost five million people live with this condition, and
500,000 others develop it each year. This condition can be
slightly problematic, or it can become disabling and impair
normal life.
People with CHF experience numerous deviations from their
previous daily activities. They have to take medicines to
relieve water buildup and to lessen the exertion of their heart
tissue. Several of these drugs cause depression and
exhaustion. The medicines can also hinder physical intimacy
with a life partner.
One other problem that people with CHF encounter is the
requirement for major dietary changes. Many have to quit eating
beef, avoid foods with a lot of fat or sodium, or restrict the
quantity of fluids they consume each day. These people are
encouraged to lose weight and work to stay as healthy as they
can.
The truth is, however, persons with congestive heart failure
do not possess as much physical endurance as before. Rather,
they have to watch while friends and relatives play volleyball,
swim, or work out. This leads to isolation and inadequacy.
Moreover, many people mourn their loss of physical strength and
wellness.
Many individuals who experience this and have not yet
reached retirement age also have to quit working. As well as
creating financial stress and anxiety, this can worsen emotions
of isolation and seclusion. They find themselves alone. Instead
of chatting with the colleague at the neighboring desk, they
watch TV while everyone else continues living.
At times, patients take depression or anxiety medicines to
deal with these losses. Others choose counseling or group
therapy to help them with fulfilling socialization needs and
working through the mourning induced by their newly changed
lives.
A better method of dealing with this form of depression,
however, has gained recent attention and gained almost instant
approval with clients who have tried it. Additionally, unlike
medicines or counseling therapies, this technique is very
inexpensive. People are able to learn to use it without
experiencing further financial hardship.
This approach, which involves a blend of Ericksonian
hypnosis and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), helps people
to learn to relax and find harmony and serenity in the midst of
daily life. These techniques assist people to accept the new
restrictions in their lives while instructing them to go on
living life to the fullest extent that they are able. Even
depressed moods that result from
medicines can be easily treated through the
successful application of the techniques available through
hypnosis and NLP. Two of these approaches are anchoring and
the Flash.
Ericksonian Hypnosis is often known as conversational
hypnosis. It offers techniques for supplying post-hypnotic
ideas rooted in a conversation or metaphor. The benefit of this
technique is that it eliminates the resistance to direct
suggestions that is nearly always included in the use of more
traditional styles of hypnosis.
With anchoring, hypnotists and NLP Practitioners coach
people to focus on happy thoughts and situations from the past
where they felt calm and in control. As the client becomes
immersed in these recollections, they are able to re-experience
those positive feelings. The client then learns to make a
physical anchor for these feelings by touching two fingers
together. The unconscious mind creates a connection between the
actual touch of the two fingers, and the positive feelings.
Later, upon encountering a stressful or depressing situation,
an anchor is triggered by touching together the two fingers,
evoking sensations of peace and tranquility.
The Flash technique is also very useful to people who are
working to conquer depression. This approach trains the brain
to instantaneously use the destructive thoughts that are
creating anxiety and sadness, as triggers for beneficial
thoughts that will create relaxation and happiness. Over time,
people usually find themselves nearly unable to have negative
thoughts!
Summary: People with congestive heart failure often
experience sadness because of mourning over decline of their
physical healthiness and well-being. Other components that can
contribute to depression are medications and financial
stresses.
Both Ericksonian Hypnosis and NLP offer excellent techniques
for assisting people to deal with sadness without having to
expend huge quantities of time and money.
